Dads and step dads
This category is a platform for dads and step dads to meet, to discuss and share how to manage complicated and complex family situations. When a family member has an eating disorder the effects of the illness are felt throughout the immediate family every day and by the wider family at family events. Dads and step dads are often central to all of the family interactions. There will be many and differing demands on your time, energy and emotions; there may be other siblings, elderly parents and partners and on top of all of this you may be trying to hold down your job.
Suggestions for post topics; managing the effect on family life, establishing family expectations, things that you should not do or say, explaining the illness to friends and family, planning for family events that will involve food and large numbers of people, making family holidays work, eating out, creating a safe and supportive environment, establishing kitchen rules, your relationship with your partner, maintaining communication, keeping your job, understanding prescribed treatment.
